Meetings Incentives Conferences and Events (MICE)

Let our world-class experts surprise and delight you with a creative proposal for your organisation’s Meeting, Incentive, Conference or Event. Spearheading our specialist MICE division is Glen Byrom, southern Africa’s pioneer (at Victoria Falls in 1991) of delivering extraordinary conferences and incentives, and winner of Africa’s first global Incentive Oscar (SITE Crystal Award) in 1995.

Indeed, several of these team members are on board at Travel Portfolio, with Hayley Idensohn and Sandy Robinson each boasting more than 20 years’ experience in delivering group experiences throughout southern Africa.

Such experience and acclaim – under the credo “Excellence is in the Detail” – is unmatched by any travel company in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana or Mozambique.

The term MICE is an acronym for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions or Events. The MICE market refers to a specialised niche of group tourism dedicated to planning, booking and facilitating conferences, seminars, and other events. Also referred to as the meetings industry or events industry.

At Travel Portfolio, we have one of the prime destinations in the world, namely VICTORIA FALLS, which is a Natural Wonder of the World, the adventure capital of Southern Africa and a wildlife destination (with a great year-round climate, fascinating culture and friendly people!) This can easily be combined with Hwange National Park or Chobe, Botswana. We are not limited to Zimbabwe and Botswana, however, as we have handled such groups in Mozambique, Mauritius, South Africa (Cape Town, Sun City) and further afield.

Incentive Travel

This component of MICE is not always immediately understood. Incentive travel is that given to employees as a performance reward. It does not usually have a business or educational component but instead, is more of a non-business vacation, with the aim of continued motivation. It might involve the family of the employee or it could be a reward for a work-group. This is usually a conjunctive effort between an Incentive House and a Destination Management Company (DMC) to be the ground handler.

Exhibitions Travel
At an exhibition, products or services are displayed and they may be the primary focus of the event. Other conferences and events may have an exhibition as one of the components. Businesses court new clients and debut their latest offerings.

Hayley and her team have been instrumental in arranging multiple conference and incentive groups, including magic moments and special touches – team building events, special theme dinners, and so on. For example, a 60s Theme Dinner would include in its decor a combi painted with big flowers as a back drop, décor on each table such as Elvis’ blue suede shoes, vinyl records, and neon table cloths. To add to the fun, guests may dress up and the best dressed couple be awarded a prize.
